Ask me about Live Painting!

I painted a wedding

The big craze I’m seeing these days is guest entertainment during events like Weddings, Birthday Parties, and Office Retreats. Weddings are popular for live paintings. Couples like to have a piece of artwork that brings the memories flooding in. I’ve seen artists spend the day capturing the scene in their own creative way. I worked with a couple who were getting married at Anchor and Angel farm, and the lighting for the scene could not have been more beautiful.

I gawked at their functioning Barbie Camper, and thought that would be the center of the piece. After meeting the couple and talking out some details with them, we decided to include their project cars that got parked on both sides of the arch, celebrating a couple of car lovers.

I connected with the bride and groom before the big day. I showed up early and got to work laying out the background and soon-to-be objects in my line of sight. The guests watched me paint before the ceremony, during cocktail hour, and during the reception. It’s something I’m seeing happen more and more at weddings. Which is great for people who like artwork and live “performance”. Weddings are events that last in our memories for a long time. Painting is a lovely way to commemorate an event.

At the end of the day, my rump was sore! I sat for 7 hours to complete the painting and set up my easel and finished piece for the guests to see. I wanted to capture the scene in my style of painting ,which can be a risk if the client isn’t a fan of an artists creative liberties, but Waverly and Trevor were delighted to let me explore. Among that, I changed the perspective of the painting because I’d rather include the important subjects. The couple was inviting and asked that I enjoyed the reception and the party which made me surprise a group of people with my dance moves. My presence was a hit! People gathered the dance floor to join me and I got to engage with some folks about art work and the process.
